Axia HR, on behalf of its client (a leading steel manufacturer and supplier in East Africa), is seeking a qualified Transport Manager to oversee the efficient, safe, and cost-effective management of the company’s truck fleet.

Duties & Responsibilities
The role involves overseeing planning and monitoring of vehicle movements, control of fuel usage and transport costs, management of transport data and reporting, and ensuring timely handling of all consignments, including imports, local deliveries, and third-party transport services.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Plan and schedule daily truck movements for all consignments.
- Ensure timely loading, dispatch, and delivery.
- Monitor GPS/vehicle tracking and address deviations or delays.
- Oversee handling of imports, local deliveries, and return loads.
- Ensure accurate preparation and filing of all transport documents.
- Coordinate with clearing agents, ports, weighbridges, and authorities.
- Monitor fuel consumption and investigate variances.
- Track transport costs and implement measures to reduce expenses.
- Manage and grow 3rd party transport sales and quotations.
- Ensure proper billing and collection for 3rd party jobs.
- Maintain accurate logs, trip sheets, and fleet data.
- Produce reports on fleet utilization, trip performance, and KPIs.
- Ensure compliance with vehicle, driver, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, and workshop activities.
- Supervise drivers and transport staff, including briefings and training.
Skills & Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Transport/Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3-5 years experience managing fleet or transport operations.
- Knowledge of Tanzanian transport regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience in driver management and vehicle maintenance coordination.
- Strong planning and organisational skills.
- Ability to optimise routes, schedules, and transport costs.
- Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and transport tracking systems.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
- High integrity, reliability, and commitment to safety and professionalism.
