Axia HR, on behalf of its client (a leading manufacturer and distributor of innovative plastic packaging solutions in East Africa), is looking for a Production Team Leader. This role will oversee Operations and offer support in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, cost, equipment, and engagement in a shift-based mode of operation.

Duties & Responsibilities
The Production Team Leader will be responsible for organizing resources for the set-up of materials, equipment, machine operation, and packaging of Work in Progress (WIP) and finished goods, and delivery to the stores in accordance with the Production planning.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Monitor daily production output against approved production plans.
- Ensure maximum productivity and efficient use of resources.
- Supervise and coordinate shift manpower and machine operations.
- Ensure adherence to shift schedules and work plans.
- Conduct daily machine inspections and autonomous maintenance.
- Monitor equipment performance and production parameters.
- Control product quality and minimize rejection rates.
- Ensure proper handling and conformity of finished products.
- Maintain accurate production records and shift reports in ERP.
- Ensure timely closure of all production jobs in the system.
- Train, coach, and upskill production team members.
- Promote safety compliance and good housekeeping standards.
- Drive continuous improvement and Kaizen initiatives.
- Identify and propose process and operational improvements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Skills & Requirements
- Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a supervisory role within the plastics industry.
- Hands-on experience with Kaizen and continuous improvement practices.
- Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and processing operations.
- Understanding of production processes, material usage, and manufacturing standards.
- Knowledge of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Ability to operate, diagnose, and troubleshoot production machinery (multi-skilled).
- Strong decision-making ability within company policies and procedures.
- Flexible, multi-skilled, and willing to take on additional responsibilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and continuous learning mindset.
- Effective planning, coordination, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Adaptable, assertive, and proactive personality with high integrity and empathy.
